The Fwoosh, an advertising partner with Mattel, was “given” a lost-but-now-found box of 100 Gleeks. These Gleeks were originally intended to be for sale at SDCC 2009 only. So Mattel decided to “get these to the fans” (besides the ones who went all the way to SDCC and got turned away from the line in a rude fashion at 9:30am Thursday morning, because the line was already closed for pretty much the entirety of SDCC).
The Fwoosh and AFP are great sites, but major advertising partners with Mattel and Hasbro, which of course pays off for them and fans of their site (and gets them free prodcuts from manufacturers). 100 free Gleeks is a great benefit! Toyfare and all other publishers get free product as well, its how media outlets are run. However, don’t expect to know the whole story or see any true reporting from them. They won’t report on how crappy sculpts are or paint jobs that look horrible or how insane $9.99 price points are for disgusting 3.75″ Wolverine Movie figures.
VeeBee writes at Fwoosh: “Finally, we would like to take the opportunity to give a big thank you to Scott and the rest of the gang at Mattel. Without them, this giveaway would not be possible. Thanks for looking out for us!” Thanks indeed.
Thanks for visiting ToyDirt and expect more coverage that expose how the collector market is really played behind the scenes!
